American Idol 8 Top 8 Recaps and Prediction

We’re down to 8 contestants and tonight’s theme is songs from the year they were born.

Some did a great decision with their songs and there’s one who continue to disappoint the judges with poor song selection.

1. Danny Gokey – Stand by Me by Mickey Gilley

He started slow with the song then gradually turned it up into a jazzy one. It sounded fresh and different but I like it. Randy didn’t love the arrangement but Danny made him love it. Paula liked what he did with the arrangement though.

2. Kris Allen – All She Wants To Do is Dance by Don Henley

Odd choice of song for Kris. Compared to his previous performances this was a downer from him. Simon was disappointed saying that it was indulgent and boring and forgettable. Randy agrees with him.

3. Lil rounds – What’s Love Got To Do With It by Tina Turner

There were some problems in the low notes but once she started belting it was flawless. However, Paula was still unimpressed for doing a karaoke version of the song. That’s bad coming from Paula. Simon says she was not making an impact.

4. Anoop Desai – True Colors by Cyndi Lauper

Wow! Great, smooth vocals and I’m glad he changed the pace midway. Falsetto at the end was a nice touch. Paula was impressed with his choice, phrasing and his voice on this one. Simon says it was good but not fantastic but still way better than last week.

5. Scott MacIntyre – The Search is Over by Survivor

Ouch. Right from the start it sounded that it’s gonna be bad. And it did especially that high note near the end. Playing the electric guitar doesn’t seem to suit him. Kara says he has awful moments in the song. Paula was being kind. Simon suggests that he go back to the piano and the song was horrible.

6. Allison Iraheta – I Can’t Make You Love Me by Bonnie Rait

It wasn’t that great but everything was nice with her performance. Simon thought it was very good but they had to make her more likeable. Randy reminded her of Kelly Clarkson but she needs to engage the audience more.

7. Matt Giraud – Part-Time Lover by Stevie Wonder

He looks like JT in his get up and what a performance. The scream near the end sounded off though. Paula was on her feet dancing. Randy says it’s one of the best of the night vocally. Kara says it was unbelievable. Simon says it was a million times better than last week as they run out of time.

8. Adam Lambert – Mad World by Tears for Fears

Wow! Absolutely brilliant performance and a very good song choice with a cool interpretation. It sounded haunting but in a really good way. You could see the amazement in Simon’s eyes before he gave Adam a rare standing ovation. You gotta see this performance and you will love it!
Prediction:

Overall, it was a great night thanks to Adam Lambert. Best performances go to Adam, Matt Giraud, Danny Gokey and Anoop Desai. Kris Allen was disappointing this week but he’s most probably not going to be in the bottom 3.

I would say that the bottom 3 would include Allison Iraheta because of lack of fans. Lil Rounds because she can’t seem to get it going week after week. Scott MacIntyre for just being plain awful. He has to go.
